They just erase history if they do not like it. In 1971 I visited Romania with a good friend, when it was under Ceascu. A soldier was on every street corner and citizens had to report any conversation with any foreigners. We managed to meet a student that wanted to use her English skills, which were suburb. We knew our hotel room was bugged and that the student had to report any conversations, as she told us.
She took us to the Communist Museum. I looked at a famous photo of the Communist leaders, I remembered from my history books. The original showed a large number of communist heroes, with Stalin in the back row. The picture in the museum had him standing alone next to Lenin and only two or three other unidentified men.
We avoided museums when we then went on to visit a number of Arab countries, so I do not know how they handle revising history.
Today I suspect the current Republican Party would show Bush’s Inauguration with Romney somehow in the front with
Reagan holding the Bible. The back of Bush’s head might be seen, but no faces, like Cheney, Rumsfeld etc.
